What does the Word of God tell us about Love?
1 Corinthians 13 -The Passion Translation
Love, the Motivation of Our Lives
13 If I were to speak with eloquence in earth’s many languages, and in the heavenly tongues of angels, [a] yet I did not express myself with love, [b] my words would be reduced to the hollow sound of nothing more than a clanging cymbal.
2 And if I were to have the gift of prophecy[c] with a profound understanding of God’s hidden secrets, and if I possessed unending supernatural knowledge, and if I had the greatest gift of faith that could move mountains, [d] but have never learned to love, then I am nothing.
3 And if I were to be so generous as to give away everything, I owned to feed the poor, and to offer my body to be burned as a martyr, [e] without the pure motive of love, I would gain nothing of value.
4 Love is large and incredibly patient. [f] Love is gentle and consistently kind to all. It refuses to be jealous[g] when blessing comes to someone else. Love does not brag about one’s achievements nor inflate its own importance. 5 Love does not traffic in shame and disrespect, nor selfishly seek its own honor. Love is not easily irritated[h] or quick to take offense. [i] 6 Love joyfully celebrates honesty[j] and finds no delight in what is wrong. [k] 7 Love is a safe place of shelter, [l] for it never stops believing the best for others. [m] Love never takes failure as defeat, for it never gives up.
Perfect Love
8 Love never stops loving. [n] It extends beyond the gift of prophecy, which eventually fades away. [o] It is more enduring than tongues, which will one day fall silent. Love remains long after words of knowledge are forgotten. [p] 9 Our present knowledge and our prophecies are but partial, [q] 10 but when love’s perfection arrives, the partial will fade away. [r] 11 When I was a child, I spoke about childish matters, for I saw things like a child and reasoned like a child. But the day came when I matured, and I set aside my childish ways.
12 For now we see but a faint reflection of riddles and mysteries[s] as though reflected in a mirror, but one day we will see face-to-face. [t] My understanding is incomplete now, but one day I will understand everything, just as everything about me has been fully understood. 13 Until then, there are three things that remain: faith, hope, and love—yet love surpasses them all. [u] So above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run. [v]
Matthew 5:46
If you love only those who love you, what good is that? Even scoundrels do that much.
John 13:35
By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
I John 4:20 TLB
If anyone says, “I love God,” but keeps on hating his brother, he is a liar; for if he does not love his brother who is right there in front of him, how can he love God whom he has never seen?
LOVE. There is much that the Word of God tells us about love. Because God is love, it is His desire for us to truly get the revelation of Love. When we walk in love for all mankind, we live in His presence. I have chosen the scriptures that captures the heart of the Father concerning love. We cannot say we are one of His if our lives do not bear the fruit of love, in speech, in deeds, in giving and in honor.
The past few years, 2020 especially, has exposed the hearts of God’s people. I must say the fruit of love has not been evident. The World has shown more selfless love to mankind than the Church. The Church has experienced a great divide. We have bashed each other, scandalized each other’s name, and found ways to publicly murder each other with our words. Then go on to profess our love of God. And to stand on the pulpit of our churches and attempt to preach the truth of the Gospel. The Light has gone dim. The Lost cannot find safety because they cannot see the Light.
Well Church, we have lied. And the Father is grieved. There is no love. We need to check our love walk. We cannot say we love until we can love our brother that does not look like us, think like us, or share the same doctrine. Until we can love as Jesus loves you. He has unselfish love towards you. Not counting your wrongs. He does not take offense because you do not see what He sees or understand His revelation.
If we were to hold our love walk up against what the Jesus have declared about love can we say we are parallel. I can tell us now; we cannot say it.
If we want to see God, we must REPENT. Correct our love. Everything and everyone do not require a response. Better yet if we must respond, respond with prayer. Let Holy Spirit guide us in all things. We cannot fail if He does. Holy Spirit will guide us with the heart of the Father, which is love.
Family, we got to do better with our love. We are talking too much and not loving enough. Our gifts are worth nothing if we are not serving from the place of love. We are just making a whole lot of noise, as the word says.
Love conquers all things. Grade your love walk and do better.
